Nick Streit was born to the fishing life; and crawling beside New Mexico rivers before he could walk. At 12 he lived with his dad in the Bahamas for 6 months and learned the ways of the saltwater flats. From 13-16 he was an apprentice guide and helped with clients. By the time he was 16 he was guiding on his own. At 17 he was on the United States Junior Fly Fishing Team that placed 2nd in the world championships in Whales. He's worked in several fly shops, spent a summer guiding in Alaska, and several seasons in Argentina. At the age of 23 he was, as A.K. Best put it, "already an old-timer in the business."
"STREIT, TEAM USA TAKE SECOND IN FLY FISHING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS"
- Headline of Taos News Sports, Aug. 20, 1998
Although I had been fly fishing most of my life, a day with Nick improved my casting dramatically. While catching some very nice fish I might add.
