Brian Spilman has been guiding with us for more than a decade. A native New Mexican, he was raised working in the outdoors and is a legendary bow hunter. He takes summers off from his construction business in Albuquerque to work for us. He does what it takes to catch fish—be it long hours or long hikes--and with confident smile won from pleasing thousand of clients.
Christoph Engle guides almost a hundred trips a year and fishes nearly a hundred more. His precise manner leaves little to chance when teaching and guiding. He finds the best fishing for the conditions at hand. He custom fits his clients to the fishing that is right for them. When he sets out in the morning we know that if where there are fish to be caught C.E. will find ‘em.
Derek Gordon was born in the Africa bush (ask him to tell you the baboon story). And being raised amongst the forest creatures he has a highly instinctive presence outdoors. In winter he is a professional ski instructor and has been teaching people athletic maneuvers for decades. This background, along with his mature and patient disposition, makes him great with beginning fly fishers.
Our youngest guide is Daniel Gentle. He is Taos Fly Shop store manager but breaks up the burden of being stuck “indoors in the outdoor business” by guiding. He started in the fly fishing racket in West Yellowstone some years back but dropped out to attempt a stint in the corporate world. He is so happy to be back where he belongs --in fly fishing—that he brightens all who are cast under his spell. He is naturally one of the most gifted casters and fisherman we’ve seen.

Taylor Streit owns and operates the guide business Streit Fly Fishing which he operates out of Taos Fly Shop. He is in the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame as a Legendary Guide and has written three fly fishing books. He conducts various schools each spring and trains all guides. He personally guides out of Chama NM from mid June-- end of July and does ½ day instructional guide trips out of Taos.
Nick Streit owns Taos Fly Shop and has been guiding with his dad since he was a teenager. When he was 17 he was on the Junior US Fly Fishing team that placed 2nd in Europe. He is our head guide and his skill at getting folks on fish makes him the most requested guide. He is also the pike specialist and has figured out how to catch them on huge dry flies. He teaches fly fishing through college courses at UNM Taos. Nick also instructs private fly casting lessons.
